Kate & Rob’s Cliff Island Wedding

In October of 2013, I met with the most lovely couple. Kate and Rob.

They were interviewing me to be their wedding planner and designer for their wedding which was to take place in September of 2014 on Cliff Island in Casco Bay. Their connection to Cliff was generations deep and although they knew it was going to be a challenge, they were both up to it. Kate’s dad had been “summering” on Cliff since he was weeks old and Rob had actually lived on Cliff as a child, attending the one room school house (his dad is a lobsterman).

Their story was a true love story. Although they knew of each other as kids, they did not run in the same circles. It was not until Kate was in Portland post college, and Rob was home on leave from the Marines that they reconnected. They wrote letters back and forth and through that, their love grew.

We had a lot of fun working together and I had the ability to get to know their charming families. As time went on, I was approached by Seabags… they wanted to collaborate on a wedding- they would provide materials if I could integrate them into the design. OF COURSE! The nautical theme and the red, white and blue pallet was a perfect fit.

Weekend of: Although it was a little chilly, and it drizzled during cocktail hour, nothing could dampen the spirits of these guests. Kate and Rob wanted a party with yummy (not fussy) food… and we nailed it. From a poetic toast, to crazy dancing and many laughs and hugs.. it was one of the best weddings. with ferry rentals and over 15 water taxi trips.

Thank you to Seabags for the materials and to emilie inc for capturing the day. I love Cliff Island and hope that I can visit again this next summer.
