At Cairn Events, we love to keep things local. We encourage our clients to learn, explore (and indulge) in our local vendors for all of the details of their special day, like welcome bag products, transportation services, printing services, photography, flowers and so much more. We have been blogging about many of these local vendors in previous posts. Today we are sharing about Carolyn Snell, from Snell Family Farm.
Carolyn has been our exclusive local flower source since we began doing floral design, in 2011. Carolyn has literally grown up in the Snell Family Farm greenhouses, immersed in the Maine soil. She grew her floral knowledge and expertise by working closely with her parents at the farm and in the greenhouses, but she developed her interest in connecting people with the natural environment through her degree in Human Ecology at College of the Atlantic.
Carolyn and I sit down together in the winter months, sifting through photos and seed books, as I plan for the upcoming wedding season’s floral designs. I have a deep appreciation for her artistic creativity and skill. She specializes in adding unexpected floral ingredients like herbs, grains, and other textures from Maine’s landscape to her already diverse floral offerings.
If you are meandering through the back roads of rural Maine, I hope that your car takes you to 1000 River Road in Buxton. You can walk through the apple orchard, shop at the farm stand, pick your own raspberries or explore the many greenhouses of Carolyn’s famous blooms. If you find yourself in Portland on a Wednesday or a Saturday, head to the Farmers’ Market and see the Snell Farm stand. Carolyn might well be there selling herbs, fruit, veggies, plants, and of course, flowers.
